Frankly, I was dreading going for a ride today. I've put on so much weight since my Murray River trip, (check out the story at upthemurray.blogspot.com) that I didn't really think I'd cope. Fortunately I was lucky enough to score Steve's new bike for the day and it was really
fast. Although I didn't think much of the seat, (I think I have a blister there now) the bike itself, was great.
Rich wanted to share our biking experience with daughter, Kate who is home from Spain for a week or two, (boy was she excited at the prospect) and we asked Steve to come but he declined at the last minute but did lend us his flash new bike.
Rose and Bob invited their mates (Fenton and Doug), so it was a nice little group that set off from Clive River mouth just before lunch.

What a lovely ride - every few kilometres brings a different vista. We started off by the river then meandered along Marine Parade and the sea, hit the city and port before ambling down Hardinge Rd by the beach. A quick meeting by Hot Chick and the group consensus was "It's ice cream time" (well why not - even though we were having lunch 100 metres further on.)
As we were heading to the car park by the light-house, we literally ran into our good buddies, the Rees, and stopped to have a chat and they wandered back with us.

We convened a meeting here and decided to explore new territory. From here we followed the new paths to Westshore then nipped across the main highway and onto the old Westshore bridge. Acting on advice from a local we ducked under the highway, ignoring the 'no biking' signs and into uncharted territory. and what lovely territory it was.

Through the wetlands with pied stilts and canadian geese, little glades of eucalyps and open grasslands towards the airport.
We dashed across the main highway at the gap near we we often stay, onto the Espanade, and back towards town where we had parked the car. At that stage the three old mates decided to bike back to Clive and the rest of us took the shortcut home in the car.
It was another lovely day on the track - our favourite familiar bits and exciting new tracks that we are looking forward to revisiting. and best of all- doing it with people we love.
